One of the Kerama Islands, sandwiched between Aka Island and Fukaji Island. You can travel between these three islands using the bridges that connect them. The photograph is of the Aka Bridge. The island has several old traditional Okinawa-style homes, such as the Takara Residence, which has been designated as an important cultural property, and still retains the scenery of an Okinawan hamlet. Except for the hamlet, population 70, the island is covered in Chinese palm forest. Accommodation options are one “pension” inn and one “minshuku” guesthouse.
