Known as the “Island of the Gods” that was the first island formed by the goddess Amamikiyo, the mythical creator of the Ryukyu Islands. Many mystical religious ceremonies are still conducted on this island, including Izaiho, which is held only once every 12 years, attracting world attention to the island for its ethnic rarity. *Due to the large numbers of sacred sites known as places of worship on the island, some sites are off limits. Take extra care with your actions on the island. Because of the many restrictions on filming, film crews are not allowed to film there unattended.
