The name Shiizou Gumui comes from the fact that there used to be a steel mill (shiizou in the local dialect) in the area in the Taisho period (early 20th century). Gumui has various meanings, such as “river backwater” and “waterfall basin” in Okinawan. There is a small waterfall, but it is not possible to climb down to it. You can drive your vehicle very close to the stream. At the entrance to the stream, there are some structures that could spoil the shot, such as a power box (transformer?) about the size of a small locker, power poles, and billboards.
